band history

Only the Beginning
Red Letter Life came together in the fall of 2008 after lead singer Bruce Hubbard and guitarist Gabriele Steriti started searching for a drummer and bassist to round out their lineup. Posting an ad online and enticing potential victims with early basement recordings of "Abbey", "River of Roses" & "Hollywood" (all of which can be found on their demo release), they came upon drummer Dave Goodman. Gabe recalls, "I thought he sounded like Keith Moon. I mean he's just beating the shit out of everything and Bruce and I were just speechless. Then he says, 'Do you like early Genesis?' and starts doing this prog stuff. Bruce asked him if he liked The Beatles, which he did, and that was it. We were done. This was the guy.". RLL recruited Gabe's old schoolmate Carl Strahl to play bass and the lineup set forth writing and rehearsing. Shows would follow, beginning at such renowned Philadelphia venues as the North Star Bar, Trocadero and Hard Rock Cafe, which were great jumping off points for the band, as they would be continuously invited back. Even with growing momentum and support, Carl had to leave the band and the search for a new bassist began. Gabe came upon Drexel University student Patrick Shannon who, at 20 yrs. old, showed a lot of talent and drive for playing and absolutely loved the music RLL was making. He would only be with the group for the next 6 months however, ultimately bowing out to focus on his studies at university.
Another Audition
Without a steady bassist, the band began a new search before their momentum waned. Enter bassist Marshall Feaster. Of his first impression of Marshall, Gabe said, "Marshall responded to an ad put out by Dave and he actually came out to see us play a gig at the Troc in Philly without us knowing it. At the end of the show he introduced himself to me and was just like 'I am going to be your new bassist', which I thought was a bit cocky so I jokingly said 'ok, we'll see', but really inside I was thinking 'dude, please just don't waste our time, and he didn't". Marshall was asked to learn the songs RLL had been performing and his audition would come in the form of a gig at Manayunk staple, The Grape Room. It was a packed room and Marshall proved to be the man. The rest is history.
Here and Now
The band has been busy, simultaneously writing, playing gigs and recording their new album, titled "Turn On Red", which is set for release in late 2011. The album is a leap forward in terms of their writing, taking all the best from their influences and really crafting something special. The band is expanding their footprint on the east coast and will be heading west for the first time later in 2011. Red Letter Life has also been busy on the business end, establishing their own publishing company, Walton Lane Publishing, and are currently securing a distribution partnership and taking over internet rock radio....
